Trump Confident “Big Meeting” with Xi Will Yield Positive Results

Date:

President Donald Trump is confident his “big meeting” with Chinese President Xi Jinping will yield positive results, despite a new round of trade sparring.
“That’s a big meeting, and I think it’s going to work out very well,” Trump said from Tokyo. The talks are set for Thursday at the APEC summit in South Korea.
The sparring includes a US 100% tariff threat in response to China’s rare earth export controls.
This escalation has also seen new US port fees and Chinese countermeasures, ending a recent truce.
Trump, however, was upbeat, calling the meeting “fantastic” and “great for everybody.”
This meeting is the diplomatic climax of his Asia tour, during which he has focused on trade and met with other leaders, including Japan’s new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
