Science-Backed Support: 7 Foods a GI Doc Says Can Strengthen Your Liver

Date:

A gastroenterologist and health content creator has shared a list of seven foods that can naturally strengthen your liver, highlighting the science-backed benefits of each.
The expert points to pomegranates, which are “rich in polyphenols, such as ellagitannins and punicalagins.” He notes that “research suggests” these compounds help calm inflammatory signals that affect the liver.
He also highlights the combination of apples and cinnamon. Cinnamon, he states, “contains compounds studied for supporting insulin sensitivity and healthier lipid levels,” while apples provide pectin and polyphenols.
The list also includes cranberries, which support the gut-liver axis with prebiotic polyphenols. Watermelon with lime is included for its citrulline and vitamin C, which support nitric oxide production for blood flow.
Raspberries are on the list for their “powerful metabolic benefits.” Beetroot is cited for its nitrates and betaine, which helps the liver process fat. Finally, strawberries with 70% dark chocolate are recommended for flavanols “associated with improving blood vessel functioning.”
