In an effort to strengthen diplomatic ties, Vietnamese Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng held talks with the newly appointed US Ambassador, Jennifer Wicks, in Hanoi. This meeting underscored Vietnam’s dedication to enhancing its Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the United States. Prime Minister Hưng emphasized the significance of the US as one of Vietnam’s key partners and expressed a desire to enhance collaboration in various sectors including trade, investment, technology, education, digital transformation, and security.
During their discussions, the Prime Minister advocated for the conclusion of a balanced bilateral trade agreement, which he believes would offer greater certainty for businesses operating between the two nations. Additionally, they addressed humanitarian assistance and efforts to mitigate the legacies of the Vietnam War, which include dioxin cleanup, the removal of unexploded ordnance, and identifying missing soldiers.
Ambassador Wicks reiterated the United States’ dedication to broadening economic connections and supporting Vietnam’s developmental goals. She highlighted the importance of strengthening ties in education, innovation, and maritime security, alongside tackling regional issues. Furthermore, she committed to maintaining joint humanitarian programs that focus on war legacy concerns and encouraging closer people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
