Ukraine’s Zelenskyy Confirms US Visit as Peace Plan Reaches 90% Completion

Date:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced plans to meet with President Donald Trump in Florida this Sunday, marking a pivotal moment in ongoing efforts to negotiate an end to the Ukraine-Russia conflict. The meeting comes as negotiators report that a proposed peace framework has reached approximately 90% completion.
The planned summit will take place at Trump’s Florida location and will focus on refining the most sensitive aspects of the peace proposal. Zelenskyy expressed confidence that much can be accomplished before the new year, noting that Ukrainian and American negotiating teams have made significant progress in recent days. The Ukrainian president emphasized his commitment to bringing the peace plan to full completion through continued dialogue.
Central to the discussions will be arrangements for Ukrainian security, post-conflict reconstruction, and territorial questions involving the Donbas region and the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Ukraine has consistently advocated for security guarantees modeled on NATO’s Article 5 mutual defense commitment, though Russian acceptance of such provisions remains unclear. Zelenskyy acknowledged that Russia persistently seeks reasons to reject peace proposals.
The current peace plan represents an evolution of an earlier 28-point document that emerged from discussions between American envoys and Russian officials. That initial framework was widely perceived as favoring Russian demands, prompting Ukraine to push for stronger security provisions and more balanced terms. Recent diplomatic activity included separate meetings in Miami between American representatives and both Russian and Ukrainian officials.
As diplomatic efforts intensify, military operations continue. Ukrainian forces recently recaptured Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region, representing a rare successful counteroffensive that exposed inaccuracies in Russian military reporting. The victory prompted frustration among Russian military commentators and demonstrated Ukraine’s continuing battlefield capabilities even as peace discussions advance toward a potential agreement.
